Summer Housing for NYU Law Students

Summer term housing for NYU Law students is offered from May 31 to August 8, 2020

  • All spring 2020 graduates and returning students in good financial standing with the University are eligible to apply.

  • Applicants may apply to stay from 4 to 10 weeks. (The start date must be on a Sunday and end date must be on a Saturday).
  • Summer Housing Applications for current NYU Law students will become available from Monday, February 3, 2020.

  • For priority in the assignment process,  applications should be submitted online by 5:00 p.m. (EST) Monday, February 10, 2020. We will begin making assignments in mid-February, and weekly thereafter. Applications will be accepted after February 8, but choices will become limited as we proceed with assignments.
  • Students who will continue to live in Law Housing during the fall 2020 term may, in some cases, switch into their fall assignments.
  • You may request apartmentmates, but we cannot guarantee placements.
  • All applicants must agree to comply with the License Agreement.
  • Current residents switching into a different apartment assignment for the summer will be required to do so as scheduled by the Department of Residence Services (Sunday, May 24 begining at 10:00 a.m. and must complete their switch by 2:00 p.m. on the same day).

Summer rent discount for Public Interest students

  • NYU Law is very pleased to offer a Summer Rent Discount Program for current students and 2020 graduates who plan to live in NYU housing while working in public interest positions this summer.

  • To be eligible, you must reside in NYU housing for at least 10 weeks.  Students and graduates deemed to be eligible by PILC on the basis of your summer position and length of stay will receive a credit of $1,000. The credit will be posted to your Albert account by June 15, 2020.

  • You must apply for NYU housing by February 8, 2020 to receive priority in the assignment process. Applications received after February 8, 2020 will be assigned based on availability of spaces.

  • If you shorten your stay after receiving the credit, you will be responsible for paying the full amount of your rent due for the summer.

  • To apply for the discount, please complete the attached application and send it to pilc.info@nyu.edu by May 15, 2020.

Transition housing

(Housing for the period between the end of the Spring Term and the start of the Summer Term)

  • Only current spring 2020 residents who request, and are confirmed for summer housing stay for week 1 (May 31, 2020 - Summer Housing start date) are eligible for Transition Housing.
  • Current residents switching into a different apartment assignment for the transition housing and summer will be required to do so as scheduled by the Department of Residence Services (Sunday, May 31 at 10:00 a.m. (EST) and must be completed by 2:00 p.m. (EST) on the same day)Residents will be charged the Summer 2020 weekly rate that corresponds with the apartment type to which they are assigned. Please see the summer housing rates to determine the rate charged for Transition Housing.
  • Summer housing applicants must apply for a minimum stay of 4 consecutive weeks. Transition housing accounts for 1 week of the minimum stay of 4 weeks.

Summer to Fall housing

  • NYU Law students who have a summer housing assignment for week 10 of the Summer Term (August 2 to August 8, 2020), and also have a confirmed Fall 2020 housing assignment, may apply for accommodations from August 8 (end of the Summer Program) to August 24 (start of the Academic Year License Period). Those applicants assigned during this period must switch into their academic year housing assignment on August 19. Residents will be charged the 2020 early arrival daily rate that corresponds with the apartment type to which they are assigned. Due to the arrival of the entering class, only those residents with a Fall 2020 housing assignment will be accommodated during this time.
  • Access to the NYU Sports Centers by summer residents ends on August 8 (end of the Summer Housing Program). Access is again available to all students once the academic year begins. Residents who would like to access the Sports Centers after August 8 and prior to the start of the academic year may arrange to do so by contacting the membership office and paying a fee.

Payments

  • Residents will be billed by the NYU Bursar's Office and student account information is available in Albert.   Please see the Payment page for further information.
  • Payment for all summer housing charges must be made in full by Friday, May 10, 2020.  Residents who face financial hardship should contact the Office of Student Financial Services to arrange a housing payment plan. Residents with an approved housing payment plan will not be assessed the $100 late payment fee.
  • Those summer residents who fail to make payment by May 10, 2020 will be unable to participate in the course selection lottery and will be charged a $100 late payment fee.
  • Students who are financially obligated to the University for tuition, housing, library or other services will have a "HOLD" placed on their account until all arrears have been paid.

Cancellations


Assignments notifications received on or prior to March 15, 2020

  • To be without penalty, notice of cancellation must be submitted via the NYU Housing Portal by 5:00 p.m. (EST) March 15, 2020. If you cancel after March 15, 2020, you will be responsible for the entire license period.
  • Unless your request to cancel or change your dates of stay is received and approved by March 15, 2020, or by the date indicated in your initial assignment letter, the license binds you to all terms for the full license period.  Cancellation receipts will be issued; it is important that you keep this receipt as proof of your cancellation for future reference

Assignments notifications received after March 15, 2020

  • If you are assigned after March 15, you must cancel assignment via the NYU Housing Portal within (2) business days from the initial date of the assignment notification. If you cancel after (2) two business days from the initial date of the assignment notification, you will be responsible for the entire license period.
  • Unless your request to cancel or change your dates of stay is received and approved by March 15, 2020, or by the date indicated in your initial assignment letter, the license binds you to all terms for the full license period.  Cancellation receipts will be issued; it is important that you keep this receipt as proof of your cancellation for future reference.

The Department of Residence Services reserves the right at any time, in its sole discretion, to terminate this license, to suspend you from student housing, to postpone or cancel the assignment of space, or to postpone the commencement of the license period:

(A) If you fail to pay any sum due under this license when due, violate any other term of this license,  or fail to occupy or improperly vacate the assigned space
(B) If the assigned space is unavailable for dormitory use or unusable due to any damage, construction, renovation, or repair
(C) For any other reason that the University, in its sole discretion, deems to be a good cause. If this license is terminated because of your failure to fully perform any of
our obligations under this license, you will continue to be responsible for all fees due under or as a consequence of this license for the entire original license period.
