Yuval Yekutiel

Biography: Yuval is a JSD student holding an LLM in Legal Theory from NYU School of Law and LLB, magna cum laude, from Tel Aviv University (TAU). During her time at TAU she served as a teaching and research assistant to Professor Issachar Rosen-Zvi in civil procedure and local government law, and to Professor Eliav Lieblich in international law. Before joining NYU, Yuval served as Senior Law Clerk to Justice Prof. Daphne Barak-Erez at the Supreme Court of Israel. She began her legal career as an office manager at Michael Sfard’s Law Office, a law firm specializing in human rights and international law.

Research: Yuval’s doctoral project examines the role of local government in realizing cultural rights in diverse societies. The dissertation asks whether decentralizing cultural authority to local governments can enable minorities to better access and exercise their cultural rights. The project explores the normative and practical potential of local governments to advance those rights.
