Get Materials

Current NYU Law Faculty, students and staff may borrow circulating print items in the Law Library print collection. Only visitors who have a Visiting Faculty Appointment by the Global Personnel Committee or who are sponsored by Law School Faculty may receive borrowing privileges. Such visitors should fill out Application for Checkout Privileges for Visitors.

NYU Law students have borrowing privileges at Bobst Library. NYU Libraries' Collections Access page on the Bobst Library website details the available delivery options for Library material not owned electronically.

Loan periods vary by type of print material. NYU Law students may check out:

  • Most open-stack books: one month
  • Reserve and course materials: 2 hours

Some print materials in the Law Library are non-circulating, including loose-leaf services and primary law materials (e.g., case reporters and statutes). Inquire at the circulation desk for more details on which items circulate and applicable lending periods.

Return print items to the circulation desk (the desk as you come into Vanderbilt Hall). To check due dates of items you have checked out, check your Julius account. If you need a special accommodation to return your Law Library items, please email circ_questions@mercury.law.nyu.edu

All circulating Law Library materials are eligible for recall by another borrower. A book checked out for a 4-week period will not be recalled during the first 14 days of the 4 week period. Upon recall, a borrower has 2 days to return the book. If the item is not returned by this new due date, overdue fines will begin to accrue based on the new due date.

Overdue items are charged fines as follows. Inquire at the circulation desk for overdue fines for other types of items.

  • Open-stack books are charged .25 per day
  • Reserve and late overnight checkouts are charged $0.25 per hour

Law Library items not returned within set periods will be deemed lost (e.g., open-stack items not returned 28 days after return date and reserve items not returned in 10 days). Patrons in these instances will be charged:

  • Cost of replacing the item
  • Processing fee ($25) and
  • Billing service charge fee ($25)

If you return the lost Law Library item within two weeks of the issuance of the invoice for the lost item, the replacement cost and the processing fee will be waived but not the billing service charge fee ($25). If you do not return the item within two weeks, the bill is considered final and all costs and fees must be paid in full.

Email circ_questions@mercury.law.nyu.edu for questions or concerns relating to fees and charges on your account.
