A generous donation from David A. Katz ’88 has endowed the Faye Albert Absher Scholarship Fund, named for the late mother of Katz’s wife, Cecilia Absher.

The scholarship is awarded to a deserving student, with a preference given to students interested in special education law.

“It is extremely meaningful to me, not only to give back to NYU Law, but to also honor Faye’s memory through supporting the education of future graduates,” Katz says. “It will be exciting to see the first Faye Albert Absher Scholar graduate in the Class of 2019.”

Katz, a partner at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, focuses on mergers and acquisitions, shareholder activism, corporate governance, and crisis management. He has been named a Dealmaker of the Year by American Lawyer three times, and he co-writes a bi-monthly column in the New York Law Journal on corporate governance.

The gift is one of many ways in which Katz, an active alumnus, continues to contribute to NYU Law. He is an University and NYU Law Trustee, and he has brought his expertise back to his alma mater through teaching Mergers and Acquisitions as an adjunct professor and serving as a co-chair of the Board of Advisors for the NYU Law Institute for Corporate Governance & Finance, which was launched in 2016.
