The growing need to achieve positive social and environmental impact throughout business relationships is driven by escalating challenges related to climate change, poverty, and social inequality. In this webinar, Professor Deborah Burand and David Frydlinger will explore the role that formal relational contracts can play in supporting the achievement of social and environmental impact and address limitations of more traditional contractual approaches.

The 2023 Annual Conference on Legal Issues in Social Entrepreneurship and Impact Investing – in the US and Beyond, co-organized by the Grunin Center and the Impact Investing Legal Working Group was on June 6-7, 2023 on-campus at NYU Law School's Vanderbilt Hall (40 Washington Square South) in New York City. The conference was attended by over 300 lawyers, students and other stakeholders from across the globe. - Reception & Dinner Celebrating NYU Law Collaboration with Intesa Sanpaolo

NYU School of Law and the Grunin Center for Law and Social Entrepreneurship co-hosted a special reception and dinner in collaboration with Intesa Sanpaolo, one of the leading Italian and European financial institutions. The reception and dinner celebrated their partnership in advancing global research around antitrust laws and compliance policies, impact banks, and the green and circular economy.

Deborah Burand, Professor of Clinical Law, introduced Maria Santos Valentin, the Grunin Center's new Distinguished Scholar & Senior Fellow, to the NYU Law School Community. They discussed the role philanthropy plays in catalyzing impact investing and sustainable development in the US and beyond, and how lawyers are shaping these philanthropic initiatives.

Each webinar series builds on our Annual Conference programming and provides participants across a particular region with an opportunity to learn from international and local legal experts in impact investing. The Grunin Center expands its webinar offerings annually and across various regions to support the growth of a global community of legal practice.

Legal Scholars Convening
The Grunin Center hosts an Legal Scholars Convening that advances legal scholarship in the fields of social entrepreneurship and impact investing by bringing together legal scholars who are writing and researching in these fields and introducing them to the legal/policy challenges and opportunities that legal practitioners are facing.
Law school faculty (fulltime and adjunct), other academic personnel working fulltime in law schools who are engaged in legal scholarship, practitioners who are engaging in legal scholarship, and professors who are teaching law in other schools yet are engaging in legal scholarship are invited to join this convening.
