Exam4 Guide
Here's everything you need to know about Exam4, from locating your information to taking different exam types. But first, be sure you take these essential steps:
Important: Exam4 Requirements
Confirm your computer supports Exam4
Your laptop must meet Law School requirements. If your Mac or PC does not have a supported operating system, you'll need to upgrade to one or borrow a compliant device for exams.
Use only the newest version of Exam4
Old versions will not work in a new exam period. For Summer 2026, use Windows. Exam4 Release 24.4.11 for Mac or Release 26.1 for Windows, both of which expire September 11, 2026.
- Close all programs and files, plug your computer into power, and confirm your operating system is one of the supported versions. Restart your computer.
- Go to the Exam4 website, fill out the registration information, and select your computer’s operating system.
- Download Exam4 and follow the installation instructions. (Note to Mac users: Uninstall the old Exam4 software before installing the new version by dragging Exam4 from the Applications folder to the Trash. No action required for Windows users; the old version will be automatically overwritten.)
Take a Practice Exam
A Practice Exam must be taken every semester to verify that your equipment is compatible with Exam4 hardware and operating system requirements.
Failure to complete one will result in the following consequences:
- Low priority for technical support during an exam with no time-recovery for computer malfunctions.
- No external devices permitted during exams (with the exception of a keyboard, mouse, and single monitor on a desktop computer used during a take-home exam).
