How To Apply

Application Information

Applications are due on March 25, 2024. Applications should be submitted to Carolina van der Mensbrugghe at cv2199@nyu.edu as one PDF file with the email subject “LLM Public Interest Fellowship” and should contain the following materials:

  1. Summary page that includes:
    • Applicant’s name, address, email, and phone number
    • List of two references, with names and contact information
    • Name and address of host organization
    • Contact person at host organization, with email and phone number
    • Brief description of the work to be executed as Fellow (approximately 2-3 sentences)
  2. Applicant’s resume
  3. Personal statement setting forth:
    • Why the applicant is interested in a fellowship at the host organization
    • The applicant’s career goals and how the fellowship would contribute to those goals
    • The applicant’s skills and knowledge, including relevant course work, clinics, internships, and student group involvement (300-500 words)
  4. Letter of recommendation from a law school professor or former employer
  5. Commitment letter from the host organization confirming the fellow’s placement and what work the fellow will carry out

Selection Process and Criteria

The selection process will include an interview with a selection committee comprised of law school administrators and public interest law attorneys. A decision is anticipated to be made by mid-May.

Selection criteria include:

  • Applicant’s qualifications, including commitment to public interest work
  • Quality of the work proposed to be done by the applicant and its potential impact
  • Relevance of the proposed work to the applicant’s career goals
