Postgraduate Fellowships Handbook

Nearly half of all NYU Law graduates pursuing public interest work begin their careers through a postgraduate fellowship.

Postgraduate fellowships are time-limited, full-time positions that are generally awarded early in your legal career. They provide unique opportunities for new lawyers to start and expand their expertise as a public interest lawyer.

At PILC, we work closely with NYU Law students and alumni to help them strategize, identify and apply to a wide variety of postgraduate fellowships. NYU Law also offers a number of fellowships dedicated to our graduating students and recent alumni.

Project Fellowships

Project fellowships are unique in that the applicant, together with their prospective employer, or host organization, develops and seeks funding for a unique legal project.

Institutional Fellowships

Institutional fellowships (also known as internally-funded fellowships) are generally more akin to time-limited staff attorney positions.

NYU Fellowships

NYU Law offers a number of postgraduate fellowships dedicated exclusively to graduating students and recent alumni.
