Losing Judgment: Mexico's Judicial Reform

This 28-minute documentary film explains how Mexico's judicial reform dismissed approximately 7,000 judges and replaced merit-based judicial appointments with popular elections as the new system for selecting judges.

Through archival footage of Mexican government officials and firsthand testimony from judges, Supreme Court justices, journalists, lawyers, and regional and international experts, the film traces the origins of the reform and how it culminated in the country's first popular-vote election of judges in 2025, weakening the independence of the judiciary.
