- Does NYU Law offer CLE credit for states other than New York?
-
No. Each state has their own rules for CLE. Some states grant reciprocity for CLE credit granted by other states. Thus, many states may accept a New York State CLE certificate, though in some cases their allocations of credit may differ. For example, New Jersey might only accept a minimum event length of 50 minutes, whereas New York State will accept a 25 minute long event. Attorneys interested in out-of-state credit should contact their state’s CLE Board to inquire about reciprocity.
- Our speaker/panelist/moderator lineup has changed since our event was approved to offer credit. Can we still offer credit?
-
Possibly. We realize that speakers, panelists, and moderators may change between the time we approve your event and the date of your event. If your faculty lineup changes, please notify our office as soon as possible and provide us with an updated timed agenda and a faculty biography for any new additions. Please note that each approved segment of your event must include an attorney with bar membership in good standing and you will not be able to offer credit if your event does not meet this requirement. After your event, we ask that you provide us with a final timed agenda, which will assist us in issuing faculty credit.
- Our timed agenda has changed since our event was approved to offer CLE credit? Can we still offer credit?
-
The answer depends on how you’ve promoted the event. If you have promoted a specific number of CLE credits for the event, you may not shorten the amount of time allocated to any segment of the event that offers credit; however, you may lengthen a CLE-granting segment of the event. If you have not promoted CLE credit and would like to change the timed agenda, please contact our office as soon as possible.
- Can we change our written materials after our event has been approved to offer CLE credit?
-
Possibly, please contact us as soon as possible to obtain approval from John Stephens.
- Do we have to provide written materials to all event attendees?
-
Yes. Event organizers must distribute written materials to all attendees before or during the event. Please note, you must obtain copyright clearance for all written materials.
You may distribute written materials by email, hardcopy, a website, etc. If your event is being held in the traditional live classroom format, you must have hard copies of your written materials available at the event.
- Can we state in our promotional materials that we have applied to offer CLE credit?

- We're approved to offer CLE for an online webinar. When should we announce our course codes?
-
You should plan to announce one course code for every 50 minutes of content approved for CLE credit. The CLE Board advises us to refrain from announcing course codes at the beginning or end of a session or program. Here are some general suggestions:
- 30 minute session > announce code around 20-25 minute mark
- 45 minute session > announce code around 35-40 minute mark
- 50 minute session > announce code around 40 minute mark
- 60 minute session > announce code around 45 minute mark
- 75 minute session > announce code around 50 minute mark
- 80-90 minute session > announce code around 45-50 minute mark
- 100 minute session > announce first code around 45-50 minute mark, announce second code around 90 minute mark
- 120 minute session > announce first code around 45-50 minute mark, announce second code around 105-110 minute mark
