NYU Law’s Law Revue goes bright pink with Bar-bie

On April 3, 5, and 6, NYU Law’s annual Law Revue presented Bar-bie, a satirical take on the law school experience. The student-produced song and dance show riffed on last summer’s megahit movie Barbie, about the Mattel doll’s voyage of discovery from seemingly idyllic Barbieland to the real world of humans. Barbieland Barbie (Sam O’Connell ’26), Real World Barbie (Maeve Wiesen ’26), and Ken (Ben Donvan ’24) navigate the complexities of doctrinal courses and make their own journeys into the real world, seeking jobs and trying to apply lessons learned in law school.

Parodying Barbie the doll’s famous multiplicity of careers, the cast included Product Liability Barbie (Rebecca Sokolow ’24, who was also the production’s head writer), 1L Barbie (Gayoung Choi ’26), Big Law Barbie (Reizl Halikman ’24), Just Auditing Barbie (Melissa Gaglia LLM ’24), Public Defender Barbie (Giavanna LaGamba ’24), Clerkship Barbie/Lawyering TA Barbie (Abby Schmidt ’24), LLM Barbie/American Constitution Society Barbie (Ifeatu Onyekonwu LLM ’24), Prosecutor Barbie (Wendy Leben ’24), PhD Barbie (Soorim Song ’24), and Doctor Barbie (Larissa Daruge ’25). The cast featured multiple Kens—Ken A (Larry Cai ’25), Ken B (Taylor Dillon ’26), Ken C (Zachary Lee ’26), Ken D (Ryan Backman ’24), Ken E (Justin Jin ’24), Ken W (Todd Warshawsky ’26), and Student Bar Association Ken (Robert McCarthy ’24)—as well as Allan (Charlie Driver ’26). Also appearing were Batya Kemper ’24, Michelle Slezinger ’25, Morgan Munroe ’26, Carson Poling ’24, Max Nobel ’25, and Katie Hieatt ’25. One performance featured guest appearances from Professors Daniel Hemel, Brant Hellwig LLM ’00, and Randy Hertz.
