Shaviro appears in new tax documentary and publishes new book

Daniel Shaviro, Wayne Perry Professor of Taxation, is among the experts featured in An Inconvenient Tax, a new full-length documentary that provides an overview of U.S. tax history and examines proposals to reform the nation’s unwieldy tax code.

The Graduate Tax Program screened the documentary on April 19. A cast-and-crew Q&A session afterward included Shaviro, producer and writer Vincent Vittorio, and tax lawyer and columnist Lee Sheppard. The film, which contains interviews with Noam Chomsky, Steve Forbes, and Mike Huckabee, is being shown at events across the country.

On April 13, the Graduate Tax Program held an event to celebrate the publication of Getting It, Shaviro’s self-published novel about a young Washington lawyer gunning for a partnership and juggling girlfriends at the fictitious firm Ashby & Cinders. Joseph Bankman, Ralph M. Parsons Professor of Law and Business at Stanford Law School, characterized the book as “Evelyn Waugh meets John Grisham. Hilarious and gripping.”
