Edward Rock

Edward Rock, the Martin Lipton Professor of Law, is the co-director of the Institute for Corporate Governance & Finance. His main areas of teaching and research are corporate law and corporate governance. In his 50 or so articles, he has written about poison pills, politics and corporate law, hedge funds, corporate voting, proxy access, corporate federalism and mergers and acquisitions, among other things. He spent the first part of his teaching career at the University of Pennsylvania where he served as Co-Director of the Institute for Law and Economics (1998-2010), as Associate Dean (2006-08), and as Senior Advisor to the President and Provost and Director of Open Course Initiatives (2012-15). He was a visiting professor at NYU in fall 2011 and has also visited at Columbia, and Hebrew University, where he was a Fulbright Senior Scholar.

Robert Jackson

Robert Jackson

Robert J. Jackson, Jr. is the Nathalie P. Urry Professor of Law, Co-Director of the Institute for Corporate Governance and Finance, and Director of the Program on Corporate Law and Policy at the New York University School of Law. He was nominated and unanimously confirmed by the Senate to be Commissioner of the US Securities and Exchange Commission in 2017 and served in that role until February 2020.

Prior to his nomination to the Commission, Professor Jackson taught at Columbia Law School, where students honored him with the Reese Prize for Excellence in Teaching. Before that, he served as a senior policy advisor at the US Treasury Department during the financial crisis and as deputy to Kenneth Feinberg, Treasury’s Special Master on Executive Compensation. Earlier in his career, Professor Jackson practiced law at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz and was an investment banker at Bear, Stearns. Jackson holds two undergraduate degrees from the University of Pennsylvania, an MBA in Finance from the Wharton School of Business, an MPP from Harvard’s Kennedy School, and a JD from Harvard Law School. He was born in the Bronx, is a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees, and lives in New York with his wife, Bryana and son, Briggs.
 

Emiliano Catan

Emiliano M. Catan LLM ’10 joined the NYU School of Law faculty in Summer 2014. His research focuses on corporate governance, corporate law, and mergers and acquisitions. Catan earned his first law degree in 2003 from Universidad Torcuato Di Tella in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he received the gold medal for earning the highest GPA in his graduating class. In 2007, he also received an MA in economics from the same university. At NYU Law, he earned an LLM in Corporations in 2010 and was awarded the George Colin Award for distinction in corporate law at graduation. He received his PhD in economics from New York University in 2014.

 

Nadia Jannetta

Nadia Jannetta

Nadia Mykytiuk Jannetta joined the Institute for Corporate Governance & Finance as its Executive Director in July 2022. For the previous seven years, Nadia managed the Institute for Law and Economics (ILE), a joint research center between University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School, The Wharton School, and the Department of Economics at the University of Pennsylvania.

Nadia clerked for the Honorable James McGirr Kelly, US District Court for the ED of Pennsylvania, before joining what was then Drinker Biddle & Reath, LLP, as a litigation associate where she represented organizations and individuals in a wide range of commercial litigation matters, including securities litigation, minority shareholder disputes, commercial contract disputes, and lending and employment discrimination cases. After six years, she joined Stradley Ronon Stevens & Young, LLP in their Investment Management Group where she worked for roughly eight years counseling investment companies and investment advisors in connection with various regulatory, compliance, and transactional issues. Nadia took a seven year sabbatical to get her son off to college before joining the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School in a part time, temporary position in Legal Education Programs, from which she was recruited for her position with ILE.

Nadia graduated from Widener University Delaware Law School summa cum laude where she was external managing editor of the Delaware Journal of Corporate Law and received her BA in political science from the University of Pennsylvania.
