Colloquium in Legal, Political, and Social Philosophy
NYU’s Colloquium in Legal, Political and Social Philosophy has been running for many years, and brings internationally renowned legal, moral and political theorists to the Law School for intensive discussions of their work in progress. The public sessions of the Colloquium are open to all and take place in the fall term on Thursdays, in the Lester Pollack Colloquium Room in Furman Hall on the 9th floor from 4:00–7:00 p.m. Papers are pre-read and are posted on the website approximately two weeks before each session.
The Colloquium is regularly attended by faculty and students from the Law School, the Philosophy Department, the Political Science Department and the Economics Department at NYU, as well as faculty from other universities in and near to New York. Those who wish to attend the Colloquium but do not have an NYU ID card should contact Omar Andron to arrange for building access.

Students taking the Colloquium for Credit
Law students and graduate students in philosophy (or related disciplines such as politics and economics) may take the Colloquium for credit by enrolling in the Colloquium seminar. Students enrolled in the seminar meet separately with the conveners for an additional two-hour seminar on Wednesdays. The Wednesday seminar devotes one hour to a review of the preceding Thursday’s Colloquium discussion, and one hour to preparation for the Colloquium the following day. Evaluation is predominantly by a term paper, though engaged class participation and questions prepared for the speakers will also be required of students. The conveners encourage students to use this course as an opportunity to write up a publishable response to one of the Colloquium papers, with a view to subsequently publishing it. Professors Murphy and Moreau are happy to assist students who wish to do this, and happy to speak with students interested in taking the seminar.
Admission to the Colloquium seminar is by permission of the conveners, and students are expected to have some background either in legal theory or in philosophy. Students wishing to apply for admission to the seminar should send their applications via e-mail to Omar Andron.
