Q&A with Dillian Waldron
Director, Hospitality and Event Operations
Tell us the story of how you came to work at NYU Law.
After nearly 15 years of leading event operations for highly successful companies, pioneering new programs and processes to boost productivity, generate revenue, and increase visibility, I launched my own company in 2010, Event Diligence LLC. Built on my extensive experience planning and executing seminars, conferences, corporate meetings, trade shows, and special events, the company focused on delivering exceptional experiences through creative collaborations and strategic industry partnerships.
That work gave me a broad perspective on the many challenges and dynamics of events, from managing internal and virtual teams to working closely with clients, staff, speakers, and vendors. With that spirit of collaboration and innovation, I was drawn to the opportunity to contribute my skills and passion to the NYU Law community.
What is a typical day for you?
I usually start my day walking through our three main event spaces—Vanderbilt Hall, D’Agostino Hall, and Furman Hall—checking on programs in progress, reviewing catering and setup details, and touching base with event organizers. From there, I return to my office to focus on planning upcoming events and meeting with departments across the school.
On any given day, my team and I provide catering recommendations, create budget estimates, design layouts, and handle the many behind-the-scenes logistics that keep events running smoothly—including billing, follow-ups, and vendor coordination. I also oversee the Golding Café and the faculty pantries.
What is the most challenging part of your role? And the most rewarding?
The biggest challenge is connecting with the many diverse constituencies and centers I support. Everyone is incredibly busy, and often our first interaction is when they’re just beginning to plan an event.
The most rewarding part is seeing months of planning come to life. When an event runs smoothly and the organizers are thrilled with the outcome, it’s an incredible feeling of accomplishment for me and the entire team.
What do you wish you’d known about the Law School on your first day?
I wish I had known how deeply rooted many of my colleagues are in the NYU community. So many are alumni or have worked here for 20-plus years. That level of connection creates a strong family atmosphere that I truly value.
What is your favorite spot on campus?
The campus has so many hidden gems—terraces, courtyards, and quiet corners—but I don’t often get to spend much time in them. Honestly, my favorite spot is my newly renovated office on the ground floor of D’Agostino Hall. It sits on the corner of MacDougal and West Third Street with a large window overlooking the neighborhood. It’s a front-row seat to all the energy—and the interesting characters!—the Village has to offer.
