Q&A with Adanna Padda

HR Assistant, Office of Human Resources

Adanna Padda

Tell us the story of how you came to work at NYU Law. Were you always in your current position?
About six months into living in New York, and about a year into transitioning my career from public relations to human resources, I began looking for new opportunities. My previous role was fully remote, and I realized how much I value in-person connection and collaboration. When I saw this position open at NYU Law, it immediately stood out as a great match for my experience and what I was looking for in my next role.

Knowing how competitive the position would be, I spent time carefully preparing my application. I decided to drop off my application materials in person at the HR office to ensure everything was received—that was when I first met [NYU Law HR manager] Jessica [Shah]. The hiring process took a few months, but I was absolutely thrilled when I received the offer.

I’ve now been in my current role for a year, and I truly couldn’t enjoy working here more. I find a lot of meaning in the work I do, and I feel incredibly supported and valued by my team. It’s been a wonderful first year at NYU Law, and I’m excited to continue growing my career here.

What’s a typical day for you like?
As is probably true for many people, no two days look exactly the same for me. I spend a significant part of my day managing the Law HR inbox, which means I’m constantly responding to a wide range of questions and requests. In addition to that, I handle phone inquiries, process employment paperwork for student workers, and manage the Children’s Scholarship Program.

My day is usually a mix of all of these responsibilities, which keeps things fast-paced, dynamic, and engaging.

What’s the most challenging thing about what you do? And what’s the most rewarding?
The most challenging part of my role is that since no two situations are ever the same, there isn’t always a clear blueprint for what comes next. That said, each experience helps inform how I approach future situations, which has been a great learning opportunity.

The most rewarding aspect of my job is working with so many different employees and students across the Law School. Being a resource for people and helping them navigate their questions or concerns is incredibly fulfilling, and it’s a privilege to be connected to such a thoughtful and vibrant community at NYU Law.

What do you wish you’d known about the Law School on your first day of working here?
I wish I had known how close the Law School is to Molly’s Cupcakes. On second thought, it’s probably a blessing I didn’t discover it right away—I’m fully addicted and definitely go more often than I should.

What is your favorite spot on campus, and why?
Piggybacking off my colleague [HR administrator] Katie Correa, I would say my favorite spot on campus is the outdoor decks in D’Agostino. While they’re less appealing in the winter, in the spring they’re such a beautiful place to enjoy lunch, get some fresh air, and spend time outside in a way that feels calm and removed from the usual bustle of New York City.
