Harawa comes to NYU Law from Washington University in St. Louis School of Law, where as an associate professor of law, he has taught Evidence as well as the year-long Appellate Clinic. Under his supervision, students have taken on criminal, habeas corpus, and civil rights appeals in federal courts of appeals across the United States, garnering commendation in two published opinions, Mejia v. Pfister and Dix v. Edelman Financial Services. As a visiting professor of clinical law, Harawa has taught the semester-long Federal Appellate Clinic at NYU Law.

“We are delighted that Daniel’s impressive professional and academic career has led him to our institution,” McKenzie said in his email announcement, noting that Harawa has consistently received high teaching evaluations from his students at both Washington University and NYU Law.

Prior to joining the faculty at Washington University in 2019, Harawa worked as a staff attorney at the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund (LDF) and as an appellate staff attorney for the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia. A former clerk to Judge Roger Gregory of the US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, Harawa was also a litigation associate at law firm Covington & Burling. He earned his BA magna cum laude from the University of Richmond and his JD cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center.
