Jerome Cohen and U.S.-Asia Law Institute research fellow meet President Ma (LL.M. '76) in Taiwan

The President of Taiwan, Ma Ying-jeou (LL.M. '76) welcomed his former professor, Jerome Cohen, co-director of the U.S.-Asia Law Institute (USALI), and USALI research fellow Yu-Jie Chen to the Presidential Office on May 4.

After the Taiwan visit, Cohen and a group of USALI research fellows attended a conference in Hong Kong as well as a workshop and a conference in Beijing. Their last stop was in Chongqing, for a conference co-sponsored by the institute and Chongqing University, focusing on a comparative examination of death penalty cases in China and the United States. Participants included Judge Jed S. Rakoff of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, as well as 100 Chinese judges and legal practitioners.
