On November 18 the Black Allied Law Students Association (BALSA) at New York University launched a food drive to benefit New Yorkers experiencing hunger and homelessness. All donations will be directed to The Bowery Mission, an organization that has served New Yorkers experiencing hunger and homelessness since the 1870s. The Bowery Mission provides hot meals, shelter, clothing, showers, medical exams, and other services to those in need.
“We chose to direct our donations to The Bowery Mission because as university students who inevitably take up a significant amount of space in the community where our school is situated, it’s important that we connect with that community in a way that benefits it,” explains BALSA Community Service Co-chair Sydney Massenberg ’23. “Helping our neighbors to obtain the supplies they need by giving what we can is a great way to do that.”
BALSA members are collecting sealed, unexpired, and non-perishable food items in Vanderbilt Courtyard on Friday, November 19 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on Monday, November 22 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Donations of spices, oils, condiments, and paper and plastic food supplies are also welcomed.
