NYU Law Trustee Jerome “Jerry” A. Manning ’52, who joined Stroock & Stroock & Lavan in 1961, has made a significant gift to NYU Law, establishing the Jerome A. Manning Tax Salon Series. The annual event will connect alumni and students for discussions of current issues in tax law.

Manning’s support of the Law School has been both broad and generous. Through his work with the Carroll and Milton Petrie Foundation, where he serves as president of the board of directors, Manning facilitated the establishment of the Petrie Scholarship and the Bernard Petrie Professorship of Law and Business, which is currently held by Stephen Choi. In 2018, the foundation made an endowment in Manning’s honor to support the Law School’s Loan Repayment Assistance Program. Manning has taught estate planning as an adjunct professor at the Law School for 40 years, and is a member of the Weinfeld Program.

“NYU Law equips students to exemplify the best of what our profession can offer,” says Manning. “Students leave with the skill and creativity necessary to tackle the most pressing issues in the law. It is an honor to support this legacy and create an additional avenue for alumni and students to engage with each other.”

At Stroock, Manning specializes in estate planning and gift and estate taxation. He is the author of Manning on Estate Planning, now in its seventh edition, a guide to tax issues in estate planning. Manning has lectured on charitable giving and estate planning at the Southern Federal Tax Institute, the New York University Institute on Federal Taxation, and the American Law Institute.
