We would like to invite students and diplomats to a conversation with Meg Satterthwaite, the UN Special Rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers, and Nils Muižnieks, UN Special Rapporteur on Belarus. Our guests will discuss the latest trends—from attacks on the independence of courts and lawyers and the shrinking civic space to strategies for accountability for international crimes.
In the face of growing pressure on the independence of the judiciary and rapid geopolitical changes, the question of “how to effectively protect human rights?” takes on particular urgency.
The discussion will focus on how to combine the tools of international law, domestic strategic litigation, and advocacy to achieve real impact - in courts, before treaty bodies, and in public debate.
