In February 2025 President Trump issued an executive order to establish a US sovereign wealth fund (SWF). As illustrated by $8.9 billion US investment in Intel Corporation just weeks ago, Trump’s US SWF is also focused on the AI-related tech investing. It is a global trend that SWFs, collectively managing more than $30 trillion assets, are increasingly becoming the economic driver and policy tool for strategic development in their respective countries.

Ireland's SWF landscape now consists of two main entities: the Ireland Strategic Investment Fund (ISIF), which is €9Bn, and the new Future Ireland Fund (FIF), which is expected to grow to around €100 billion by 2035. When the two AI superpowers - US and China - are leading the AI race, how will ISIF make strategic investments to keep the Irish economy competitive? Can Ireland's SWF empower the Irish businesses to position strategically in the global AI value chain and strategic technology landscape?
