State Legislator Roundtable: State Government Initiative & Public Interest Law Center Panel Series

  • Tuesday, October 20, 2026
  • 1:15–2:15 p.m.
    1. Vanderbilt Hall, Smart Classroom 220

This event is not open to the public.

The State Government Initiative and the Public Interest Law Center are excited to announce the next event of our 2026-2027 panel series, a State Legislator Roundtable.

State legislatures are the primary policymaking bodies for the United States, but they often get less media attention than city councils, much less US Congress. State legislatures are an incredible opportunity for lawyers and law students to get directly involved in some of the most significant policy discussions in the country. From law school internships to post-grad bill drafting positions to central staff policy positions to running for office, state legislation is a career path that allows young lawyers to have an outsized impact.

This panel will feature three lawyers who are current and incoming state assembly members discussing their work to deliver solutions to Americans’ biggest issues. Panelists will include Catalina Cruz, New York State Assemblymember, 39th District; Eli Northrup '11, Democratic Nominee for New York State Assembly, 69th District; and Chigozie Onyema '11, New Jersey State Assemblymember, 28th District.

Professor David Siffert '09, Executive Director of the State Government Initiative and Democratic Nominee for New York State Assembly in the 66th Assembly District, will moderate.

The event will take place on Tuesday, October 20th from 1:15pm – 2:15pm in Room 220 of Vanderbilt Hall, 40 Washington Square South. RSVP here.

Lunch will be served.

We hope you all can join us!
