We’re excited to invite you to a lunch chat next Thursday the 23rd with Tené Johnson, Director at the Animal Legal Defense Fund and a complex litigation associate at Latham & Watkins (NY), who will be joining us virtually.
This chat will be especially valuable for students interested in animal law, but also for anyone heading to BigLaw who wants to pursue a specific public interest area through pro bono work.
Tené maintains an active animal law pro bono practice at Latham and has represented major nonprofit animal welfare organizations. Her work includes drafting amicus briefs, defending animal activists’ free speech rights, and litigating cases involving animal abuse. She earned her J.D. from Columbia Law School, where she was on the board of the SALDF chapter.
In this conversation, we’ll talk with Tené about:
- Her path into animal law and BigLaw
- What pro bono animal law work looks like in a firm setting
- How to get involved if your firm doesn’t have an established animal law practice
- Navigating conflicts of interest
- Balancing billable and non-billable work
- And more

We hope to see you on Thursday!
