Please join the Federalist Society for a conversation between Judge Rachel P. Kovner of E.D.N.Y (Trump appointee) and Judge Paul A. Engelmayer of S.D.N.Y. (Obama appointee). Judges Kovner and Engelmayer, who both served as Supreme Court clerks, federal prosecutors, and Assistants to the Solicitor General, will explore how these experiences have impacted their judicial philosophies and approaches to judging.

Speakers: 

Judge Rachel P. Kovner serves on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York. Prior to receiving her commission in 2019, she served as an Assistant to the U.S. Solicitor General from 2013-2019, as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in S.D.N.Y. from 2009-2013, as a law clerk to Justice Antonin Scalia from 2007-2008, and as a law clerk to Judge Harvie Wilkinson (CA4) from 2006-2007. Judge Kovner received her J.D. from Stanford Law School in 2006 and her A.B. from Harvard University in 2001.

Judge Paul A. Engelmayer serves on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. Prior to receiving his commission in 2011, he worked in private practice from 2000-2011, as an Assistant to the U.S. Solicitor General from 1994-1996, and as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in S.D.N.Y. from 1989-1994 and again from 1996-1999 as chief of the Major Crimes Unit. He served a a law clerk to Justice Thurgood Marshall from 1988-1989 and as a law clerk to Judge Patricia M. Wald (CADC) from 1987-1988. He received his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1987 and his B.A. from Harvard College in 1983.
