LPE’s first reading group of the year is dedicated to paper-pushers everywhere. On Wednesday, September 17, at 7:00 pm, we will explore how law takes shape through material practices and artifacts–with a special focus on files.
Files mediate legal power by storing and circulating relevant information. They also, famously, pile up everywhere. As symbols of bureaucracy, surveillance, secrecy, and plain old busywork, files are good to think with. (This remains true in an increasingly computerized profession). Join us for an open discussion about the power to record events and refashion them in legally valid terms.
Dinner provided. Please RSVP here!
