Join NYU’s Latin American Arbitration Society and Willem C. Vis Arbitration Moot Team, in collaboration with the Intesa Sanpaolo Center for Transnational Litigation, Arbitration, and Commercial Law, for our inaugural International Arbitration Oral Advocacy Showcase on Wednesday, March 4, from 7-9pm in VH 210! Open to JDs, LLMs, and students of all levels, this event will provide a glimpse into international arbitration proceedings at the highest level and demonstrate the oral advocacy skills of top arbitration counsel and tribunal members. No prior experience with arbitration is needed to attend!

This event will showcase two experienced and awarded practitioners — Mr. Derek Soller (Bailey Duquette) and Ms. Gretta Walters (Chaffetz Lindsey) — pleading an investment treaty dispute before a tribunal of three distinguished arbitrators — Professors Franco FerrariD. Brian King, and Ms. Melida Hodgson (Arnold Porter). Following a brief introduction and explanation of the dispute, each distinguished counsel will present initial submissions to the panel before conducting a brief rebuttal. The dispute addresses salient issues surrounding preferential tariffs and renewable energy transition policy (coal to solar), and will cover a number of important legal issues within the field of international arbitration, including arbitral jurisdiction and investor compensation under customary international law.

If you are interested in attending this event, please RSVP here: https://forms.gle/9Ph4Lur115LCgHUL8. Attendees who RSVP will be emailed a brief summary of the dispute and a copy of the fact pattern before the event. Attendance will be limited, so we recommend signing up soon — looking forward to seeing you all there!

Warmly,

NYU’s LAAS and Vis Moot Team
