AABANY and the NYU School of Law Asian-Pacific American Law Students Association (APALSA) present a fireside chat with Hasan Shafiqullah, Immigration Supervising Attorney in the Law Reform Unit at The Legal Aid Society.
The Legal Aid Society is the nation’s largest and oldest social justice law firm, providing comprehensive legal services to low-income New Yorkers. In his role within the Law Reform Unit, Hasan Shafiqullah focuses on impact litigation, policy advocacy, and systemic reform to protect immigrant communities and advance access to justice.
During this conversation, we will explore current and emerging immigration enforcement trends, the role of impact litigation and policy advocacy in shaping immigration law, and the importance of community-centered lawyering in responding to evolving legal and political challenges. Hasan will also discuss his professional journey, student activism, and approaches to maintaining attorney well-being in public interest practice.
The program will conclude with time for networking and hors d’oeuvres.
