Join us for a timely discussion with Wai Wai Nu, the Founder and Executive Director of Women’s Peace Network, a democracy activist and former political prisoner, who will share her insights about the importance of international law in preventing mass atrocities, as well as in supporting domestic transitional justice mechanisms, drawing on her decades-long advocacy for the people of Myanmar — including her community, the Rohingya ethnic and religious minority group.
Wai Wai is a lawyer, human rights activist, and former political prisoner who has spent her career advocating for the rights of her people and for accountability for the genocide that Rohingya communities experienced at the hands of the Myanmar military in 2017. She is recognized as a leader of Myanmar’s pro-democracy movement, which has opposed the Myanmar military regime since their coup d’etat in 2021. Her advocacy focuses on advancing justice and accountability for those most impacted by conflict, including women, youth, and ethnic minorities.
This event is hosted in partnership with NYU Law Students for Human Rights, Women of Color Collective, and Asian-Pacific Allied Law Students Association. This event is open to non-NYU members, though please RSVP in advance to guarantee access to the building.
Light dinner will be served.
