Empire City Live

  • 6:00–8:00 p.m.

The police tell us they are here to protect us. But what if their original purpose was something else altogether?

Join Crooked Ideas, the non-profit partner of Crooked Media, and Chenjerai Kumanyika, host of the award-winning podcast, Empire City: The Untold Story of NYPD, live in Brooklyn for an evening of conversation about the current state of policing.

Featuring the community members and organizations pushing back to protect the most vulnerable among us, Empire City Live will arm organizers with the tools to mobilize against the current wave of federalized police forces invading cities to profile and terrorize Black and Brown residents. Doors open at 6:00 p.m., and the panel begins at 7:00 p.m.

Feature Panelists are:

Lumumba Bandele, Interim Executive Director at Communities United for Police Reform

Erica Ford, Founder and CEO, Life Camp Inc

Yaritza Mendez, Director of the Power to Win Initiative at The Action Lab

Dushoun "Bigga" Almond, Program Director of Brownsville In, Violence Out
