The Rule of Law Lab at NYU School of Law is pleased to announce the upcoming launch of its new documentary: Losing Judgement: Mexico's Judicial Reform. The film explains how the reform dismissed approximately 7,000 judges and replaced merit-based judicial appointments with popular elections as the new system for selecting judges.
The short film will be followed by a panel discussion on judges under threat in Mexico and beyond. Panelists will discuss the threat to judicial independence under autocratization:
- Matthew Diller, Chair of the Independence of Lawyers and Judges Task Force, New York City Bar Association
- Justice Javier Laynez, former Mexican Supreme Court judge
- Pablo Querubin, Professor of Politics and Economics, New York University
- Margaret Satterthwaite, United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Independence of Judges and Lawyers
- Amrit Singh, Professor of Practice and Faculty Director, Rule of Law Lab at NYU Law (Moderator)
