As Venezuela begins to reopen to foreign investment and international business, a fundamental question emerges: how can new capital enter Venezuela while the country continues to face substantial legacy arbitration awards, judgments and sovereign debt claims?
This panel will bring together practitioners working at the intersection of U.S. sanctions, investment arbitration, award enforcement and sovereign debt restructuring to examine what has actually changed, what protections are available to new investors, what is happening to existing creditors, and whether Venezuela can ultimately resolve these competing claims through a broader restructuring.
Rather than organizing the discussion by speaker or practice area, the panel will be structured around four questions that move from the current opening of Venezuela to the challenges of protecting new investment and resolving legacy claims
