The Bias in the Bot: Implicit Bias in Large Language Models
- Thursday, September 17, 2026
- 12:00–1:00 p.m.
- This is a virtual event
AI and large language models (LLMs) are rapidly reshaping industries with the promise of advancing human progress. Yet Mahzarin Banaji, Harvard professor, experimental psychologist, who co-coined the term "implicit bias," suggests that this new incarnation of AI is anything but unbiased. In fact, it may be arguably more biased than humans.
Join Professor Banaji in conversation with Professor Kenji Yoshino, Chief Justice Earl Warren Professor of Constitutional Law and Director of the Meltzer Center for Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging where she will discuss the alarming evidence of LLM biases—including gender bias, bias transmission, and face-to-character biases—their workplace implications, and actionable frameworks for building fairer AI systems.
This event is part of the Meltzer Center for Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging speaker series and is cosponsored by the Birnbaum Women’s Leadership Center. Visit our website for a list of our sponsors.
