Basic Income in the Lab: Bridging Theory and Practice

  • Tuesday, April 14, 2026
  • 1:00–2:00 p.m.
    1. Room VH214, Vanderbilt Building

Could we fight poverty through no-strings-attached cash transfers? Should we? Each year, the Basic Income Lab explores these questions while designing and implementing a real-world cash transfer program serving our communities.

Join us for a panel to learn more about basic income in theory and practice. We will discuss the policy questions at the heart of cash transfer debates, the results of previous experiments, and the work of the Basic Income Lab Seminar, in which NYU Law students design and implement cash transfer programs serving different populations in NYC.

Panelists:
Daniel Hemel, John S. R. Shad Professor of Law
Sarah Blanton ’07, Chief Executive Officer, 4-CT; Adjunct Professor of Law
Lex Uttamsingh ’26, Spring 2025 Basic Income Lab Seminar
Joonsoo Yi ’26, Spring 2026 Basic Income Lab Seminar
