ACS Presents: A Conversation w/ Hon. Laura Taylor Swain

  • Thursday, October 29, 2026
  • 1:00–2:00 p.m.
    1. Furman Hall, Classroom 214

This event is not open to the public.

Join ACS and BLSA for a conversation with the Honorable Laura Taylor Swain, Chief Judge of the Southern District of New York, on leading one of the most prominent federal district courts in the country. As a proud daughter of Brooklyn, Chief Judge Swain will also discuss her long history of public and community service.

Chief Judge Laura Taylor Swain has served on the U.S. District Court for SDNY since 2000, and became Chief in 2021. Before joining the district court, she served as a U.S. Bankruptcy Judge in EDNY, worked in private practice, and clerked for the first Black woman to serve as an Article III judge, Judge Constance Baker Motley, in SDNY. Her work in SDNY has spanned overseeing Puerto Rico’s debt restructuring under PROMESA, to overseeing the federal takeover of Rikers Island, and much more.

This is highly recommended for 1Ls or 2Ls interested in interning for a judge.

Food will be served.
