The Jeffrey D. Pariser '93 Fellowship at NYU Law
Jeffrey Pariser
Jeffrey D. Pariser ‘93 was our classmate at NYU Law, a dear friend and a brilliant lawyer. An NYU Law Review Note and Comments Editor and a member of the Order of the Coif, he practiced law for over 25 years. He served as a clerk for Justice Stewart Pollock of the New Jersey Supreme Court, a litigation associate at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP, the Executive Director at Common Good, and a partner at Hogan & Hartson. Jeff passed away in July 2023 at the age of 58.
In 2010, Jeff joined the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), the industry watchdog for the securities markets. This would be his final professional role and it perfectly brought together his passion for the public good, his brilliance as a lawyer, and his ability to inspire those around him. At FINRA Jeff rose through the ranks to head the litigation group, which brings cases against brokers and firms who violate FINRA regulations and other financial rules and regulations. He became well-known for his skill and passion, integrity, desire to do the right thing, incredible work ethic, and his kind, caring and loyal treatment of colleagues.
He served as the first chair on the most important cases FINRA brought and his name appears in dozens of decided cases which are publicly available at FINRA’s public on-line database of disciplinary actions, available at finra.org. He was - and remains - an inspiration for how a single person can make an outsized impact on the people he encounters, and how a skilled lawyer can use his or her talents to make the world a better place, delivering justice one case at a time.
In recognition of Jeff and his exemplary career and contributions, we have worked with NYU Law to establish the Jeffrey D. Pariser ’93 Fellowship Fund. The Fellowship will be awarded each year to at least one rising 2L or 3L student with financial need who intends to have a career in public service upon graduation. It is our hope that the Fellowship will help generations of NYU Law students pursue their dreams of a public interest law career and continue Jeff’s public service legacy.
