Summer Housing Application

Information about the 2010 Summer Living in New York Program will be available shortly.  If you provide us with your contact information, we would be happy to contact you when the application is available in January, 2010.

Please review the materials on our Web site and read the information below prior to submitting the application.

How and When to Apply
We begin making long-term assignments in March, and weekly thereafter, so you should apply as soon as possible.

All applications require a $25 nonrefundable processing fee and an initial payment ($700 for long-term applicants and $300 for short-term applicants) at the time of application. Incomplete applications will not be processed.

Applicants may either submit the nonrefundable processing fee and initial payment online at the time of application via American Express, MasterCard, or Discover and be charged a convenience fee equal to 2.5% of the total. All applications require a $25 nonrefundable processing fee and an initial payment at the time of application. payment or submit a certified check or money order for the initial deposit and a personal check, certified check, or money order for the nonrefundable processing fee. The University does not accept Visa.  Those choosing to pay the nonrefundable processing fee and initial payment by personal check, certified check or money order must submit two (2) checks within 10 days of submitting the application. Failure to submit the correct initial deposit and processing fee will result in your application being deleted from our database. All applicants will be required to decide at the time of application the preferred payment method.

The applicants social security number (NYU ID) and name must be used when submitting payment online via credit card.

Housing Assignments are made based on the date the application is received and length of stay requested. Submitting an application does not guarantee placement. 

Social Security Number/University ID Number
Your Social Security Number (ID number) will be your initial NYU account number. You will be assigned a University Identification Number after your application has been processed. If you do not have a social security number please contact our office at law.slny@nyu.edu.

If you have a NYU ID Number (i.e. NXX-XX-XXXX) you must use this ID number when submitting the application.

Permanent Address
This will be used as the primary address to which all correspondence will be sent. Assignment information will be sent via email and U.S. mail.

Current Address
College or other temporary address. This information should only be completed if this is where you want to have your confirmation sent. Please indicate the last date that information can be sent to you at this address in the Valid Until section.

Emergency Contact
This information will be used in the case of an emergency.

Single or Family/Couple
We are pleased to be able to accommodate requests from families, including those with children under the age of 18. Please indicate if you are applying for single or family/couple housing. If you are applying for family housing, please indicate the name of accompanying adult and name(s)and age(s) of children, if applicable. All applicants for family housing must also submit a notarized Affidavit for Family Housing. The Affidavit for Family Housing must be submitted within 10 days of submitting your application.

Summer Employer or Affiliation
Please indicate your summer employer or NYC affiliation.

Apartmentmate Preference
Specific apartmentmates may be requested but cannot be guaranteed. Each applicant must both submit an application, select the other and apply for comparable lengths of stay.

Weeks of Stay
You must indicate both a start date and an end date. The start date must be on a Sunday and end date must be on a Saturday.

Total Weeks Requested
The total number of weeks requested beginning with the requested start date and ending with the requested end date. The total weeks requested must correspond with the requested start date and end date.

Short Term:  4-7 Weeks                                         Long Term:  8-11 Weeks

Week 2:  Sunday, May 31-Saturday, June 6
Week 3:  Sunday, June 7-Saturday, June 13
Week 4:  Sunday, June 14-Saturday, June 20
Week 5:  Sunday, June 21-Saturday, June 27
Week 6:  Sunday, June 28-Saturday, July 4
Week 7:  Sunday, July 5-Saturday, July 11
Week 8:  Sunday, July 12-Saturday, July 18
Week 9:  Sunday, July 19-Saturday, July 25
Week 10:  Sunday, July 26-Saturday, August 1
Week 11:  Sunday, August 2-Saturday, August 8

The minimum length of stay is 4 weeks.

All Requests to Change Dates of Stay must be submitted in writing to the Office of Residential Life, 240 Mercer Street, by the individual applicant. The request form must be accompanied by a nonrefundable $25 processing fee, payable by personal check to NYU.

Apartment Preference
List in order of preference all choices of building, apartment type, and occupancy which you will accept. We have only a limited number of studio and one-bedroom apartments. Preferences will be considered based on availability. It is to your advantage to apply as soon as possible. If your preferences are not available, and you do not indicate that you will accept an alternate assignment, you will be placed on the waitlist.

Review the rates and apartment options prior to submitting the application.

Lifestyle Accommodations                   

Please note information that may be helpful in assigning you an apartment and apartmentmate(s). This information will be considered and accommodated if an appropriate match is available. The Office of Residential Life is unable to accept requests based upon race, religious creed, color, national origin, sexual orientation, age, or marital or parental status.

In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, New York University will provide reasonable accommodations for a student eligible to reside in School of Law housing who has a qualifying physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities and has a record of such an impairment or is regarded as having such an impairment.  In order to be considered for a special housing accommodation you must complete the Special Housing Accommodation Request Form provided at the Moses Center and return it to the Moses Center for Students with Disabilities, 719 Broadway, 2nd Floor, New York, NY 10003, ATTN: Special Housing Accommodations. You can also call 212-998-4980(/voice/TTY).  Information provided to the Moses Center for Students with Disabilities is kept confidential and only will be shared within the University as is necessary to evaluate the request.

Summer Living in New York 2009 License Agreement
All applicants must agree to comply with the license agreement .

Fees and Payments
All applications require a $25 nonrefundable processing fee and an initial deposit ($700 for long-term applicants and $300 for short-term applicants). Applicants may either submit the nonrefundable processing fee and initial deposit online at the time of application via American Express, MasterCard, or Discover (The University does not accept Visa.) and be charged a convenience fee or submit a certified check, money order or personal check for the initial deposit for the nonrefundable processing fee and initial deposit.  Two (2) checks must be submitted and both must be submitted in U.S. Dollars.

Failure to submit the correct initial deposit and processing fee will result in your application being deleted from our database. The initial deposit will be credited towards your rent. If we are unable to assign you, or if you cancel by the deadline, your initial deposit will be returned to you.

Payment by Credit Card (American Express, MasterCard or Discover )

  • The applicants social security number/NYU ID Number and name must be used when submitting the initial deposit and norefundable processing fee online via credit card.
  • Short-term applicants (4-7 Weeks) must submit a $325 payment ($300 initial deposit and $25 nonrefundable process fee).
  • Long-term applicants (8-11 Weeks) must submit a $725 payment ($700 initial deposit and $25 nonrefundable processing fee).

Payment by Two Checks

  • Initial Deposit ($700 for long-term housing and $300 for short-term housing):  The initial deposit, made payable to NYU, may be sumbitted in the form of a personal check, certified check or money order.    The applicants social security number (student ID) must be noted on the check.
  • Nonrefundable Processing Fee:  The $25 nonrefundable processing fee, made payable to NYU, may be submitted in the form of a personal check, certified check, or money order. The applicants social security number (student ID) must be noted on the check.

Note: Read the License Agreement as well as all information pertaining to the Summer Living Submitting an application does not guarantee placement.in New York program available on this site. The license is a binding contract, and all applicants must agree to adhere to the terms and conditions set forth. All applicants agree to review and abide by all policies and regulations of the University and NYU School of Law Department of Residence Services that are or shall become effective during the license period.
