NYU School of Law J.D. Students Exchange Program

NYU School of Law encourages our J.D. students to consider the possibility of going abroad as an exchange student as a means to become familiar with a foreign legal perspective in a way unavailable to them in New York. The exchange program is a partnership with 12 universities across four continents that allow a few (two to four) NYU students to take courses at their university. Depending on each student's individual course of study, the feasibility of spending a semester away from the Law School varies.
 
J.D. students at NYU School of Law may participate in an exchange program during their 2L year or 3L Fall semester. Students who transferred to NYU School of Law from another law school are only eligible for an exchange semester during the Fall of their third year. Exchange students will receive credit for the courses taken at an exchange institution; however, these courses will not count towards GPA and will appear on transcripts as credits earned through the exchange program at the partner institution.
 
Currently there are multiple approved partner law faculties at which students may study abroad. Exchange students will also have regular access to all of the host institution's facilities, including law libraries and campus resources.

Students Interested in Studying at NYU School of Law

If you are a prospective exchange student who wishes to study at NYU School of Law for an exchange semester, you are eligible to apply if you attend one of our partner law faculties with whom the Law School has an arrangement.

If you are interested in studying at NYU School of Law for more than one semester, please visit the Office of Admissions for information about transfer and third year visiting students. Transfer and Non-Matriculant admission is available to those students who are in good standing in Juris Doctor programs at law schools that are either Members of the Association of American Law Schools or approved by the Section on Legal Education of the American Bar Association.
