This year, the AnBryce Scholarship Program celebrated dual milestones: Not only was this the 20th year of the program, but May also marked the graduation of the 100th AnBryce Scholar. Founded in 1998 by now-outgoing Board Chair Anthony Welters ’77 and Ambassador Beatrice Welters, the program supports students who are among the first in their family to pursue a graduate or professional degree and who have proved to be leaders in the face of challenging social and economic circumstances. Scholars receive a full-tuition scholarship and mentorship as they navigate law school and launch their careers.

In an interview with the New York Law Journal at the start of his tenure as board chair, Welters summed up the motivation behind his philanthropic work, including his support of the AnBryce Program: “If you can say you helped give someone an opportunity, that’s what it’s all about,” he said. “If they succeed...they bring a whole generation forward.”
