Graduate Admissions

A global legal education for a 21st-century career

We are pleased you are interested in graduate study at NYU School of Law. The premise of our approach to graduate legal education is that no matter where in the world or what area of law, our graduates will practice in a global environment. We have designed the curriculum to sensitize our graduate students to the normative and professional challenges globalization entails and to equip them with the relevant tools to enable them to approach the law in a more encompassing, universally-aware manner. Students benefit from an unmatched selection of courses, seminars, practical experiences and opportunities to engage in intellectual projects with faculty at the highest level. All this takes place in the Graduate Division, which is among the largest and most intellectually diverse in the nation.

The primary graduate degree is the Master of Laws. At our New York City campus, students may choose either the traditional LL.M. degree, which enables them to develop expertise in virtually any combination of courses and fields they wish, or one of our eight acclaimed specializations, in which students undertake a majority of their coursework in one area. The master’s degree specializations are: Corporation Law; Competition, Innovation and Information Law; Environmental Law; International Business Regulation, Litigation and Arbitration; International Legal Studies; Legal Theory; Taxation; and International Taxation. The majority of our students study full-time for one year to complete the degree, and some programs are available on a part-time basis for practicing lawyers.

NYU School of Law and one of Asia’s leading law schools, the National University of Singapore (NUS), offer an unparalleled dual-degree program for students who want to become leaders in international business and gain a foothold in Asia. In one year, students earn the LL.M. in Global Business Law from NYU, and a second LL.M. from NUS while studying in three cities at the center of the global economy. The program takes place primarily in Singapore, but students also have the option to take some classes in Shanghai and, following graduation, to travel to New York City for a seminar about legal institutions, thought and practice in the United States.

The Law School also offers the following degrees and certificates:
