Overview of the LL.M. Career Curriculum
July
Incoming students receive information from the Office of Career Services regarding preparing a resume for review and other job search preparation tips.
August-September
An orientation session for LL.M. students takes place to ensure a smooth transition into the fall semester and the job search process. Students receive their CSM username and password to begin accessing job listings, job search resources, and the OCS events calendar. Resumes submitted in July are returned to students.
OCS hosts in-depth job search workshops targeted to tax, foreign-trained, and non-tax LL.M. students, as well as interviewing skills workshops. Students may begin setting up one-on-one career counseling appointments after attending a job search workshop.
The fall on-campus interview program for Tax/International Tax LL.M. students begins in September and runs through November.
October
OCS hosts reception for foreign-trained LL.M. employers, alumni and students.
Tax students participate in the NYU Day at the Tax Court in Washington, D.C. OCS also invites Tax employers including the Big Four Accounting Firms and the IRS to campus to speak about career options for Tax students.
International students submit their resumes and selections for the January International Student Interview Program.
November-December
OCS hosts career education panels targeted towards each of the LL.M. specializations, featuring NYU School of Law LL.M. alumni. Students can also attend the Career Education Fair with practice area tables designed to help students network within their practice area of interest. A panel of foreign-trained LL.M. partners and employers of foreign-trained students speak about the job market in NYC and globally.
The Tax Practice Interview Evening takes place, allowing Tax/International Tax LL.M. students to conduct 20 minute practice interviews with LL.M. graduates practicing tax in the NY area.
January
The International Student Interview Program, which provides law students from 32 schools with the opportunity to meet with over 140 employers from around the world, takes place at the end of the month.
OCS organizes a Practice Interview Evening for international students in preparation for the International Student Interview Program.
The spring on-campus interview program for Tax LL.M. students begins in January and runs through March.
February
The Taxation Interview Program (TIP) takes place in Washington, D.C.
March-April
The post-graduation job search workshop is held.
