FALL 2026 1L LAW FIRM EVENTS

1L Private Sector Orientation

Monday, August 24, 2026
Vanderbilt Hall, Tishman Auditorium

Learn about the 1L job search process, job search resources, networking, and interview skills. Private sector career counselors will provide legal market information and guidance. Attendance at this event is required to meet with a private sector counselor or to participate in any private sector interview programs. Attendance is encouraged for students considering public sector careers only during law school and upon graduation.

After attending the 1L Private Sector Orientation, students are encouraged to watch brief webinars that will assist with their job search:

  • 1L Resume Workshop
  • 1L Cover Letter Workshop

Students can access these webinars via the JD Video Library on the OCS website.

Career Services Manager (CSM) and Public Service Jobs Directory (PSJD) Registration

Students should complete and update their profile on one or both websites in advance of attending the career counseling meetings or workshops.

The Career Services Manager (CSM) is an online portal used by NYU School of Law to post private sector, public interest, and government job listings, employer events, job search workshops, links to employer research materials, on-campus interviewing information, and a variety of other career resources.  Please favorite/bookmark the website for easy future reference.

Please fill out the required fields and as much of the profile as you can so that counselors have up-to-date information about your job search preferences. You may update your profile at any time as your career interests evolve.  To ensure that you receive notifications about public interest opportunities, check off Public Interest in your employer type preferences.  If you are interested in clerking, please check off Judicial in your employer type preferences.  Use this portal to upload your resume, transcript and cover letters, for easy access.

Meet the Firms: 1L Networking Reception

Kimmel Center, Rosenthal Pavilion (10th Floor)

Attorneys from over 80 firms and cities nationwide will network with 1Ls. They will showcase their firm's key practice areas and send representatives from a number of cities in and outside of New York. Students are encouraged to attend and hone their networking skills as they learn more about various legal practice areas and markets.

Investment Banking and Finance For Lawyers: Panel & Networking for 1Ls

Wednesday, October 14, 2026, 6:00 - 7:30 pm
Vanderbilt Hall, Room 206

This 1L panel will feature J.D. and JD/MBA Graduates who work in Investment Banking and Finance. The event is geared toward current 1L J.D. students who may wish to recruit for 2L summer positions within these industries. The program will focus on showcasing these careers and sharing information on how to network, interview, and research for the recruiting season.

NYU Law Confidential: Preparing for 2L Summer Recruiting Programming

Monday, October 19, 2026
Vanderbilt Hall, Tishman Auditorium

This session will introduce the law firm 2L summer recruiting process, including timing, logistics, and strategy. OCS counselors will provide an overview of both formal and informal aspects of the 2L summer associate recruiting process. OCS will also discuss employer research and provide practical advice on selecting employers based on your experience, academic record, and individual goals – all based on historical hiring data.

This session is highly confidential and a recording will not be posted on our website. Students who plan to participate in formal 2L recruiting are required to attend this session. Please note that public interest-directed students interviewing exclusively with government and public interest employers during EIW should attend separate PILC meetings in lieu of this session.
