ELS Outdoors

What would an environmental law society be without a little exposure to the natural environment of the Northeast? While it's easy to forget when surrounded on all sides with buildings, there are actually some beautiful spots for hiking not far outside the city.

Of course, we need some adventurous members to plan some trips into the wilderness. That's where ELS Outdoors steps in.

With our new wheels we will head across the southern tip of Manhattan to South Street Seaport and the wonderful New Amsterdam Market, known for its diverse vendors and regional focus. This will be one of many opportunities to grab some snacks or just sample local delights. (remember to bring credit card and ID to check out a bike)
    • 11:30am: Heading to the Battery we will return the bikes and watch a Flotilla of fine Dutch ships sail the harbor while listening to Ellen ten Damme “one of the Netherlands’ most provocative singers, songwriters and violinists”
    • 1-4pm: After a stop by Tear Drop park we will head north to catch some music at Hudson Harmony and make our way to the Harbor Day Oyster Festival in order to “commemorate the important role of the oyster in the history of New York City” and join in the 17th century beer tasting competition. Come or leave at any point throughout the day!
