Former NYU Law student lands Comedy Central show

Demetri Martin, who completed two years at NYU Law before a change of heart led him to pursue a comedy career, debuts his own Comedy Central show, Important Things with Demetri Martin, on February 11. The show is comprised of Martin's stand-up comedy and sketches. Martin, a nontraditional comic trafficking in deadpan, succinct subtlety, and the display of eclectic self-taught talents such as unicycle-riding and glockenspiel-playing, previously wrote for Late Night with Conan O'Brien and appeared as a correspondent on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. His one-man show If I won the Perrier Award for best show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and subsequently became a British television special. In a February 16 New York magazine cover story, Martin explained that his brand of humor does not fit the usual topical mold: "I am typically not that relevant as a performer. Political stuff is not a good fit for me. I like to daydream."
