In recent months, NYU Law has significantly expanded the range of employment data available on the school’s website. We have now added information about the status of J.D. graduates whose initial employment was funded by a grant from the Law School to provide support during a down cycle in the legal job market. These grants are a natural extension of a range of programs NYU Law has had in place for many years to assist those pursuing public interest or government jobs. For example, named fellowships, now numbering more than a dozen, have long given NYU Law graduates opportunities to conduct research or gain practical experience at a variety of public service organizations. Our Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP) covers 100 percent of eligible debt for many graduates who take qualified public service jobs that pay up to $80,000 a year. We also guarantee funding for all first- and second-year students who work in approved summer public service internships. For 2011, that summer funding encompassed 439 students working in the U.S. and 33 other countries. In nearly all instances, Law School-funded positions for graduates have led to continued employment in the legal field. The newly posted data summarizes information we have available about postgraduate-funded positions for the classes of 2008 – 2010.
