On January 4, Miriam Sapiro '86 took office as a deputy United States trade representative responsible for trade negotiations with Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas. The U.S. Senate confirmed her nomination to the Office of the United States Trade Representative at the rank of ambassador on December 24. Sapiro will also supervise intergovernmental affairs, market access, services and investment, intellectual property and innovation, and the Washington, D.C.-based Office of WTO and Multilateral Affairs.
Sapiro, a former adjunct professor at NYU Law, is the founder of Summit Strategies International, a consulting firm specializing in Internet policy, electric commerce, and international issues involving strategic planning and consulting. She previously served in various roles in the administrations of Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, and Bill Clinton.
