Samuel Issacharoff takes Citizens United discussion abroad
The Supreme Court’s January ruling on campaign finance in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission has generated plenty of controversy in this country. Now Samuel Issacharoff, Bonnie and Richard Reiss Professor of Constitutional Law, has carried the debate beyond U.S. borders. The occasion was the Third International Seminar on Judicial Electoral Oversight, at which he presented a talk, "Citizens United and the Problem of Political Party Funding in the U.S." Held in Mexico City on October 6 and 7, the event was organized by the Supreme Electoral Court of Mexico. Issacharoff, who gave his address in Spanish, reports that participants came from about 15 countries. Roughly 400 people attended, primarily lawyers and judges dedicated to electoral administration.
