On January 18, Mitra Hormozi ’95 was appointed chairperson of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Commission on Public Integrity.
In 2008, Hormozi was appointed Cuomo’s special deputy chief of staff in New York State’s Office of the Attorney General. In that role, she coordinated major initiatives involving public integrity and consumer fraud. Hormozi previously spent six years as an assistant U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of New York. While in that position she headed the Organized Crime and Racketeering Section, where she worked on high-profile Mafia cases and won a number of law enforcement awards. Prior to working as an assistant U.S. attorney, Hormozi was a litigation associate at Kronish, Lieb, Weiner and Hellman, and an honors attorney in the U.S. Department of Commerce.
The 13-member Commission on Public Integrity includes seven members selected by New York’s governor, and six appointed by the governor after recommendations from New York’s attorney general, comptroller, and four legislative leaders.
