Michael Spearman '81 named to Washington State Court of Appeals

On March 24, Governor Chris Gregoire of Washington named Michael Spearman ’81 to the state’s Court of Appeals. Spearman, who was a judge in King County Superior Court from 1993-2007, will join Division 1, which serves King, Snohomish, Skagit, and Whatcom counties. Most recently, he was a panelist at Judicial Dispute Resolution in Seattle and a civilian auditor of the Seattle Police Department's Office of Professional Accountability, which monitors investigations of citizen complaints about police.

“Judge Spearman’s experience as a trial judge is a real asset to the Court of Appeals,” Gregoire said in a statement. “He is highly regarded by those he has worked with for his intelligence, incredible work ethic and thoughtful decisions. I am confident he will bring these attributes to his new role.”
