Janet Sabel '84 named New York's executive deputy attorney general for social justice

On December 22, Attorney General-elect Eric Schneiderman named Janet Sabel '84 New York state's executive deputy attorney general for social justice. Schneiderman takes over for former A.G. and Governor-Elect Andrew Cuomo on January 1.

Sabel is general counsel for the Legal Aid Society, where she has worked since 1985. She previously served as a staff attorney in the Civil Division's Brooklyn Neighborhood Office and staff attorney in the Civil Appeals and Law Reform Unit. In 1997, she received the New York State Bar Association Public Interest Law Award and, in 2002, she received the New York County Lawyers Public Service Award.

Schneiderman’s transition team includes honorary co-chairs Robert Abrams '63, former New York A.G., and Zachary W. Carter '75, a former U.S. attorney.
